Barcelona Airport Termina1 façade solution by Ricardo Bofill

14/06/2010
This is the façade solution of Terminal 1 at Barcelona Airport developed by architect Ricardo Bofill. A rigid structural system which permits that gravity and wind loads generated by each one of the glass panels - attached with four clips - is transferred to the steel horizontal profiles, to the pillars and finally to the main structural elements of the building.

Glass is attached to the structure by a joint specially designed to allow the exact alignment of the façade and correct any possible misalignment of the steel structure.

The façade guarantees high light transmission. The white colour of the structure contributes to light reflection. Additionally it reduces heat absorption of the structure and consequently reduces deformations and tensions caused by dilation.
