El Anfiteatro

On a slight promontory over a cliff that dominates a magnificent view of the sea and the Rock of Ifach, a program of twenty-seven luxury apartments with community swimming pool and solarium takes the shape of a classical amphitheatre. Extending towards the cliff, the swimming pool, the true theater of the summer activities, occupies the place of the stage in the Greek tradition.

The duplex apartments, all with double orientation, are distributed in three buildings organized around a central square. On either side of the swimming pool, two rectilinear buildings rise along the cliff. Their façade to the sea is composed of a classical rhythm of double pilasters. This façade composition, which corresponds to the divisions of the apartments, maximizes views to the outdoors. The entrances to the apartments are located in the rear façade, on a small street connecting the car park with the central space. Each building comprises seven aligned apartments and a penthouse. The roofs are used as sundecks reached form the swimming pool by two monumental stairways.

The third building is semicircular and encloses a central space, which is highly private and secluded. Its views of the sea are enhanced by its being raised on two semi basements housing shower facilities, locker rooms, storerooms and a community lounge.

The difference in level between this building and the area surrounding the swimming pool is resolved with a convex inclined plane, a symbol of the antique amphitheatre in its spatial expression, which protects the main orientation of the apartments from the collective circulation. Two tiers of continuous seats form the connection of the inclined plane with the rock floor of the square.

The interior façade is defined by the juxtaposition of large openings doubly framed and topped with pediments. The eleven apartments have their entrance in the rear façade, served by a passage which parallels it, and which is reached directly from the roadway of the development or from the parking areas.

The parking areas are set off by precast columns crowned by planter ivy-covered capitals.
